The Roman Road to Redemption is a step-by-step journey through the Book of Romans in the Bible, providing a clear path to understanding God's plan for salvation. This guide outlines the key scriptures that explain why we need salvation, how God provided salvation, and how we can receive it.
1. Acknowledge Our Sinfulness
Romans 3:23
“For all have sinned and fall short of the honor and glory which God bestows and receives.”
Explanation:
We start by recognizing that everyone has sinned and falls short of God's perfect standard. This verse reminds us that no one is exempt from sin; we all need God's grace.
2. Understand the Consequence of Sin
Romans 6:23
“For the wages which sin pays is death, but the [bountiful] free gift of God is eternal life through (in union with) Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Explanation:
Sin has a price, and that price is spiritual death, or separation from God. However, God offers us a free gift — eternal life through Jesus Christ. This is the great hope for those who choose to accept it.
3. Recognize God's Love and Provision
Romans 5:8
“But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.”
Explanation:
God's love is so profound that He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for us even when we were still in sin. This sacrificial act is the ultimate demonstration of His love and desire to redeem us.
4. Confess and Believe for Salvation
Romans 10:9-10
“Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses (declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms [his] salvation.”
Explanation:
Salvation comes through confessing with your mouth and believing in your heart that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead. This step of faith is how we accept God's gift of salvation.
5. Call on the Name of the Lord
Romans 10:13
“For everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord [invoking Him as Lord] will be saved.”
Explanation:
This promise assures that anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord with a sincere heart will be saved. It's a simple yet profound truth that invites everyone to receive God’s salvation.
6. Enjoy Peace with God
Romans 5:1
“Therefore, since we are justified (acquitted, declared righteous, and given a right standing with God) through faith, let us [grasp the fact that we] have [the peace of reconciliation to hold and to enjoy] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).”
Explanation:
Once we accept Jesus, we are justified by faith and have peace with God. This means we are reconciled to Him and can enjoy a personal relationship with our Creator.
7. Live Free from Condemnation
Romans 8:1
“Therefore, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.”
Explanation:
In Christ, there is no condemnation. When we walk according to the Spirit and not the flesh, we live in the freedom that Jesus provides, free from guilt and shame.
8. Be Assured of God's Unfailing Love
Romans 8:38-39
“For I am persuaded beyond doubt (am sure) that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things impending and threatening nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Explanation:
Finally, nothing can separate us from God's love in Christ Jesus. No matter the circumstances or challenges we face, God's love remains steadfast and unmovable.
Your Invitation to Salvation
If you feel called to accept this gift of salvation, simply pray and ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior. Confess your sins, believe in His sacrifice, and receive the eternal life He offers freely. Remember, it’s not about earning His love; it’s about receiving His grace.
